Introduction

The Animal Science and Biotechnology Department, the first department in the Agriculture College, was founded in the Autumn 1975. Originally, it belonged to the Science College. Gradually it expanded its space, until the Agriculture Building was constructed in August 1982. The Graduate Institute of Animal Science and Biotechnology, established in the fall of 1989, offers a graduate program leading to the Master of Science degree. The Institute began enrolling doctoral students in Fall 1998. The Institute offers opportunities for study and research in animal feeding, nutrition, management, genetics, breeding, reproduction, physiology, utilization of animal products and applied biotechnology. After twenty-nine years, the Department and Institute’s success can be demonstrated by witnessing the twelve laboratories, staff research and study rooms, library, and advanced scientific instruments. In addition, sixty acres of an experimental farm with roughage, dairy, poultry, deer and swine divisions, as well as the milk-processing factory, all contribute to an excellent environment for teaching, training and research.
