Department Administrative Assistant

Main Areas of Responsibility:
1. Assist Department Chair (help with communications, correspondence, meetings and appointments, information-gathering, translation needs, etc.).
2. Handle official matters related to faculty:
a. Responsible for processing of faculty and staff appointments, contracts, M.O.E.certification, health insurance, applications for promotion, and all types of leave applications (study, sick, and personal leave, both long-term and short-term).
b. Serve as administrative assistant for the Department Faculty Affairs Committee and Department Council.
c. Provide assistance to faculty regarding applications for housing, conference travel grants, NSC and other research grants, NSC and Tunghai research awards, and ROC visas (Note: Final responsibility for all such applications rests with the faculty member concerned).
3. Handle most
accounting-related work:
a. Keep records for all the Department's financial accounts:
1) all basic budgets for the Day Division, Second Division, and M.A.
Program;
2) ICBC account;
3) FLLD Development Fund;
4) Donation operating budget.
b. Keep billing
and account records for the Department's photocopy machines.
4. Handle official communications with other Tunghai offices via memos and petitions, mid-term development plans and reports, work reports for the University Council, etc.
5. Manage Department files and records (except for specific areas handled by other staff members).
6. Serve as part of a staff team for special department projects, e.g., conferences and other special events.
7. Provide administrative support to MOE teaching excellence grants affiliated with the department.

Majors Program Assistant
Position held by Daisy Chuang (莊美華)
Main Areas of Responsibility:
1. Serve as administrative assistant for the Majors Program in the Day Division:
a. Handle all matters related to course-scheduling, course-registration, and record-keeping, including contact work with students, teachers, and the Studies Office.
b. Manage files related to Majors Program curriculum and regulations.
c. Serve as administrative assistant for the Majors Program Curriculum Committee and Majors Program Faculty Committee.
2. Help faculty order textbooks for Majors Program courses, both Day and Second Division.
[Note: Final responsibility for textbook-ordering rests with the faculty members concerned]
3. Provide administrative support for "Recommended Students" entrance exam, inter-department transfer exam, double-major entrance exam, and Teacher Training Program entrance exam, such as communications, contact work with applicants, relevant offices, printing and proctoring exams.
4. Handle communications and contact-work with all FLLD students on matters related to scholarships, competitions, and study-abroad opportunities (together with the Second Division Assistant and the Department Chair).
5. Serve as staff supervisor (along with the Department Chair) for the Carpe Diem café.
6. Serve as part of a staff team for special department projects, e.g., conferences, special events, and department publications.
7. Work on special interpretation projects for Department faculty (with Department Chair's approval, and preferably during office hours).

Non-majors and Other Foreign Languages Assistant

Main Areas of Responsibility:
1. Serve as administrative assistant for the Non-majors and Other Foreign Languages programs:
a. Handle all matters related to course-scheduling, course-registration, and record-keeping duties for Non-majors and Other Foreign Languages courses in the Day Division, including all contact work with students, teachers, and the Studies Office.
b. Manage files related to Non-majors and Other Foreign Languages curriculum and regulations.
c. Serve as administrative assistant for the Non-majors English Coordinating Committee.
2. Help faculty order textbooks for Non-majors and Other Foreign Languages courses.
[Note: Final responsibility for textbook-ordering rests with the faculty members concerned.]
3. Serve as the main staff supervisor for the "laozuo (勞作)" students who perform office-cleaning task.
4. Keep the reservation book for the FL004 and FL005.

6. Serve as area manager for the Teachers' Lounge, Photocopy Room, FL113, FL004, and FL005.

record-keeping, including contact work with students, teachers, and the Studies
Office.
b. Manage files related to the
Graduate Program curriculum and regulations.
c. Serve as administrative
assistant for the MAPFC and GAC.
a. Handle all paper work related to purchase, maintenance, and termination of
equipment.
b. Handle all matters related to book purchase and registration with the main
library.
4. Serve as administrative assistant for department inventory.

Second/Night Division Assistant

Wei-ching Weng (翁瑋璟)Main Areas of Responsibility:

assistant for the Majors Program in the Second Division and FENM for
Extension Division.

contact-work with students, faculty, and
Second Division offices.

Manage files related to Second
Division curriculum and regulations.

Coordinate campus-wide contests and activities of foreign languages

Serve as part-time assistant for the Intensive English Program.

Supervise the department
library and student computer lab, including the portable teaching equipment
stored in the Student Reading Room.

Manage FLLD offices and
facilities from 6:00-9:00 p.m.

Department Technician
Position held by Dennis Wei (魏登賢)
Main Areas of Responsibility:
1. Maintain and (when possible) repair Language Lab equipment, A-V equipment, and computer equipment throughout the department.
2. Offer technical support for computer and A-V equipment to faculty, staff, and students.
3. Manage, update, and maintenance of the FLLD website.
4. Help faculty record and copy audio and audio-visual materials.
5. Advise Department Chair and M.A. Program, Library and Purchasing Assistant on matters related to equipment purchase and management.
6. Manage portable equipment.
7. Serve as part of a staff team for special department projects, e.g., conferences, special events, department publications.
8. Serve as the main staff supervisor for the "laozuo (勞作)" students who perform LAB-cleaning task.
